A downsize can be completed as quickly as two days, or it can be conducted in phases over several weeks or months. Each downsize is unique and the timeline depends on many variables such as: the size of current home, amount of furnishings and location. 

We personalize and customize our downsizing services to reflect your priorities, your needs, your home and your timeframe.   

Whether your downsize is planned over 2 days, 2 weeks or 2 months, we typically follow the order of the steps above to plan and complete the transition to your new space.

If you choose to work with Songbird independently, the cost will depend on many variables such as the size of your current home, the amount of belongings you plan to move, the amount of sorting and discarding of unneeded belongings required, distance from your new and old home, and proximity to the Songbird shop in Granville. 

We charge a flat hourly fee for each team member on site for all of our services. Our services can be contracted on an à la carte basis, so the final cost will vary depending on the scope of the work involved. We would be happy to provide you with an estimate for your downsize. Please contact us to set up a free consultation.

Start small. Consider beginning with a place that doesn't contain sentimental items or that includes items with expiration dates, such as the refrigerator, pantry or medicine cabinet. Start by simply disposing of all old or expired items.

Yes! Our services are available à la carte, which means you can pick and choose from the services we offer. For example:

Downsizing: we can help you select items to take to your new home as well as sort, organize and pack your belongings. We can also move, unpack and set up your furniture and other household furnishings in your new space. 

Space Planning: We can help you envision your new space and offer "interior re-design" services which is the concept of decorating your new home utilizing your existing furnishings. 

Estate dispersal: We can sort and deliver any unneeded furnishings and household  items to local charities and recycle or responsibly dispose of any trash. 

Home sale prep: We can clean and paint rooms to prepare your home to be sold. We can also coordinate with contractors and schedule other specialized services to prepare your home to be listed. 

Yes! We've helped many families that move from out of state to senior living communities in Central Ohio. We can work directly with you and the moving company to coordinate the unloading, unpacking and set up of the furniture, household furnishings and artwork. 

Yes! After organizing and moving all furniture to your new downsized space, we offer a number of options for dispersal of things you no longer need or use. For example, through our partnership with Fostering Further, we collect downsized furniture and household items  and then furnish entire apartments for foster youth—many of whom exit the foster care system with nothing but a suitcase. This "Downsizing Double Win" has been featured in local and regional media. We also have an established relationship with local vendors who can assist with re-sale of high value items. 

We will work with you to create an estate dispersal plan for any items you no longer need or want. Most of our clients choose to donate unneeded items to local charities. Whenever possible, we furnish entire apartments with gently used furniture and household items for young people who "age out" of the foster care system. 

Families can choose to participate in as much (or as little) of the process as they would like. Some clients have our team take care of the "stuff" so they can focus on the care of their loved one. Others like to be involved in the just the sorting and packing process, or only unpacking and set up of furnishings. Regardless of whether your family is large or small or whether family members live locally or are scattered across the country, Songbird is flexible and adaptable to your family dynamics.
